The Northfield boys basketball team stepped out of their class and hosted 4A #23 Columbia City Saturday night.The Norse started hot, but lost to the Eagles 66-43.
The Norse come out of the gate showing no fear of the Eagles. Ryan Givens opened the scoring and was followed with three buckets from Ryan Keaffaber, including a three pointer to take a 9-4 lead. Givens would add another bucket and one by Collin Dawes gave the Norse a 13-6 lead after one.
Columbia City come out the second quarter and showed why they were ranked, clamping down on defense with a full court trap and the offense went crazy, out scoring Northfield 26-2 in the quarter to take a 32-15 lead at the half. Chad Glasscock had the lone Norse bucket.
Northfield had a chance to come out of the locker room and just go through the motions, but instead come out fighting. The Norse would have five players score in the quarter. Ryan Keaffaber led with 6 points as Columbia City out scored the Norse 18-16 and led 50-31.
The Eagles would out score the Norse 16-12 in the final stanza as the Norse played hard to the final buzzer. Four Norse players scored in the quarter, led by Ryan Givens with 4 points.
The Norse were led by Ryan Keaffaber with 13 points. Ryan Givens had 9 points and 8 rebounds. Chad Glasscock had 8 points. Collin Dawes added 6 points, Cody Gibson 3 points, Houston Miller and Dustin Echard 2 points each.
