Knights Out Shine Comets

The Southwood boys basketball team was playing just their third game of the year and were already short handed, playing without Shane Smith and Dalton Gentry. Being without two key players you have two choices. Feel sorry for yourself or gather the troops and circle the wagon.

From the opening tip it was all Southwood. Sexton Boggs hit two three pointers and a two, along with a bucket from Grant Keaffaber to lead 10-0. Jackson Blair then hit back to back buckets to expand the lead to 14-0, forcing Eastern to take a time out with 3:42 on the clock. Coming out of the time out, Connor Hobbs hit a three from the parking lot followed by a Jackson Blair bomb to go up 20-0. Southwood led 39-26 at the half.

To start the third the Comets scored 5 quick points to cut the lead to 10 before Winget hit a bucket and a free throw and Hobbs nailed a three to put the Knights back up by 12. Eastern’s Joey Price kept pounding the ball inside and two long three pointers from Breden Gibson cut the Knight lead to 5 before Hobbs connected on a two and a free throw to increase the lead to 8 with a minute to go.  Hobbs capped off the third with a long three at the buzzer to give the Knights a 54-43 lead.
