The Manchester boys 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team topped Northfield Thursday at Manchester Jr High.
Manchester won the 7th grade game 30-22 and the 8th grade game 39-32.
David McAtee. 11 pts
Levi Hicks. 8 pts
In the 7th grade game Codey Holmes was the leading scorer for the Norse with 9 points.
Manchester coach Rex Reimer ”Wow…what a game to be a part of coaching and for a Squire fan in the stands. After getting off to a slow start Northfield had us down early 8-1 in the first quarter but that didn’t discourage the kids at all. We
battled back and led at the half 15-10 and never looked back from there.
Our kids really handled the Norsemen pressure late in the game and Kane
Gable made some key free throws that sealed the win for us. Some key
bench players helped with the win as well Heath Dierks guarding their post
players and guards Justin Scott and Kolten Alexander doing an excellent
job taking care of the ball and guarding their perimeter players.”
In the 8th grade game, Rylie Rickert led the Squires with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
Noah Shear led the Norse with 14 points. Jared Short had 13, Remington Monce 2 and Drake Richter 2.
Manchester coach Volk ” Hard fought contest by both teams. First half we were a little impatient on offense not allowing our cutters to get into the middle of the zone. The 2nd half we did a much better job moving the ball and finding the open man.”
Northfield coach Troyer ”We played a very tough Manchester team to a four point lead at half time tonight. We were outscored 17-8 in the fourth quarter tonight and couldn’t keep up the defensive effort we had carried through the first three quarters. We will learn from this loss and work to grow in our knowledge of the game and our pride for what our team represents as we head into the home stretch and prepare for our conference tournament”
