The Northfield junior varsity basketball team finished runner up at the Pioneer Shootout Friday. After besting Southwestern Wednesday the Norse come back Friday morning to defeat Pioneer 30-29 before falling to Sheridan in the champinship game 39-17.
Against Pioneer the Norse struggled in the first quarter, trailing 9-4 after after the stop, but rebounded in the second quarter holding Pioneer scoreless while putting up 14 points to lead 18-9 at the half.
The third quarter also started very slow, not seeing a bucket until the 2:44 when Pioneer hit. The Norse finally broke the ice at 1:23 when Adam Roser drained a three. In the fourth, Pioneer would rally and tie the score with 3:45 to go and neither team seen the bucket again until 5 seconds left when Carter Frieden hit the winning free throw.
In the championship game against Sheridan the Norse could find no rhythm the entire game, scoring just 10 points in the first half and 7 in the second half to fall 39-17.
In game one Jon Richardson led with 11 points and 4 steals. Adam Roser had 10 points. Tanner Wilcox had 5 points and 6 rebounds. Carter Frieden and Hunter Louden added 2 points each.
In game two Tanner Wilcox had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Jon Richardson had 6 points and 4 steals. Adam Roser had 3 points and Carter Frieden added 2 points.
