The Manchester Lady Squires were looking to stay on a roll after defeating Central Noble on Tuesday, hosting Eastbrook Thursday. As usual coach Underwood shuffled players in and out, dictating the tempo and putting 8 players in the scoring column, building a big early lead and then holding on to win 59-54.
From the very start it looked as though the Squires were going to build a huge early lead and just run away from the Panthers. Kayla Flack scored 7 of the Squires 14 first quarter points and Manchester led 14-9 after one. Kaylee Watson had a three in the quarter.
The offense and defense went to work in the second quarter. Flack would bang home three, 3 pointers in the quarter, with buckets also coming from Watson and two from Hannah Little as the Lady Squires out scored Eastbrook 17-6 and led at halftime 31-15.
In the recent past the Squires have had quarters where they just could not find the bucket. The third quarter was one of those quarters. Manchester could only garner one Hannah Little bucket, while the Panther offense was finding it on a regular basis, out scoring Manchester 20-7 in the third, cutting the Squire lead to 38-35 with a quarter to go.
The Panther offense would stay hot in the fourth quarter, putting up 19 points, but the Squire offense would find the bucket again from the field and the free throw line to score 21. As the game got a little physical in the fourth with one team trying to catch up and the other trying to hang on the two teams shot a combined 31 free throws. Manchester connected on 11 of 17 free throws and connected on five buckets to secure the win. Bekah Brunn would hit 3 of Manchester’s 5 buckets in the quarter.
Leading the Lady Squires was Kayla Flack with 22 points, 3 assist, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Bekah Brunn had 8 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Malyssa Bedke had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Hannah Little had 7 points, 2 assist, 13 rebounds, 1 block and 3 steals. Hannah Schmidt had 5 points, 7 rebounds and 1 steal. Kaylee Watson had 5 points, 1 assist and 1 block. Meika Kennedy had 3 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound and 4 steals. Lindsey Budnik had 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal.
The Lady Squires are now 9-3, (2-1 TRC)
The JV lost to Eastbrook
Mariah Mobley had 6 points, 2 rebounds and 4 steals.
Shelby Johnson had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal.
