The Northfield Lady Norse basketball team dug an early hole and then tried to come back at Tippecanoe Valley Saturday, falling short to the Vikings 60-49.
The Valley offense was clicking right from the start and the Norse were having a hard time finding the bucket as the Vikings started the game with a 19-2 run. after weathering the storm the Norse out scored Valley 6-3 the rest of the quarter and trailed 22-8 after one.
The Norse offense would play better in the second quarter, but still losing ground to Valley as the Vikings out scored the Norse 13-10 in the quarter and Valley led 35-18 at the half.
Northfield would climb back in the game in the third quarter, out scoring Valley 16-9, cutting the lead to 10 points, 44-34 and within striking distance.
The two teams would strike back and forth in the fourth quarter, with Valley winning the quarter 16-15 and the game 60-49. The Norse had the lead cut to 6 at one point, but turnovers kept Northfield from getting any closer.
Leading Northfield was Sidney Reed with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. Sydney Eltzroth had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Arie Kennedy had 9 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Kylie Echard had 3 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. Katie Stephan had 2 points, 1 assist and 1 steal. Alyssa Richter had 1 block. Michelle Hendricks had 1 steal. Caitlin Eltzroth had 1 assist.
