It was a rematch of game one of the county tourney and Southwood had a different result in mind when they lost to Wabash 48-32. The Lady Knights were hosting Wabash in a regular season game Saturday with revenge on their mind. The Lady Apaches wanted to prove the county was no fluke and show why they had won six straight county titles. The Apaches used an explosive third quarter to defeat the Knights 54-31.
The first three points of the game were scored on free throws by the Cromer sisters, Kelsey2 and Claire 1 before Katie Stouffer connected on two of her own to make it 3-2 without a bucket scored. Wabash, playing their bench early got buckets from Katelin Vogel and Charlie Pardo to increase the lead to 7-2 before Kelsey Cromer drained a three and the quarter ended 10-2.
Jessica Pegg and Kelsey Cromer would trade three’s to start the second quarter when Emily Murphy went to work. Murphy hit three buckets in a row, forcing Wabash to call a time out and then hit a free throw to make it 13-12. Marin Hill and Claire Cromer made it 17-12, followed by a Katie Stouffer bucket and it was 17-14. Kelsey Cromer then drained her third three of the half and Wabash went to the locker room leading 20-14.
Kelsey Cromer and Marin Hill would hit, followed by a Kyleigh Hampton three and Wabash started the third quarter on a 7-0 run, making it 27-14. After two Katie Stouffer free throws made it 27-16 the Apaches would score the next 6 points and the lead stretched to 33-16, forcing the Knights to call time out. Stouffer would hit coming out of the timeout, then Wabash went on their next run, this time a 10-0 run aided by Kelsey Cromer’s fourth and fifth three of the game that made it 43-18 before Sarah White ended the quarter with a bucket and it was 43-20 after three.
Sarah Puckett started the scoring for Wabash in the fourth with two free throws. Southwood then got buckets from Murphy and Pegg, her’s a three to make it 47-25. The 22 point deficit was as close as the Knights would get as the Apaches cruised to the 54-31 victory.
Leading Wabash was Kelsey Cromer with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Marin Hill had 14 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 2 steals. Claire Cromer had 5 points, 1 rebound, 8 assist and 4 steals. Kyleigh Hampton had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assist, 3 steals and 5 blocks. Katelin Vogel had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Charlie Pardo had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Sarah Puckett had 2 points. Kalie Obenour had 2 rebounds. Abby Stein had 1 rebound. Brittany Stone had 1 rebound.
Leading Southwood was Emily Murphy with 11 points. Katie Stouffer had 8, Jessica Pegg 6, Sarah White 4 and Kaley Harness 2.
