The Southwood girls basketball team traveled to Whitko Saturday and fell short to the Wildcats 52-44.
In a game that was tight the entire way the Lady Knights trailed just 11-9 after one and 24-17 at the half.
Southwood cut the lead to 6 points at 35-29 after three, but Whitko out scored the Lady Knights 17-15 in the final quarter to defeat the Knights 52-44.
Leading Southwood in scoring was Sarah White with 14 points. Mollie Harnish, Amy Bowman and Ana Marie Farlow had 6 points each. Emily Murphy led the Knights in rebounding with 9. Bowman had 7 and Harnish 6.
Jaycie Wright and Jessica Pegg led in assist with 3 each. Pegg, White and Bowman all had 2 steals each.
The Lady Knights are 3-10
The junior varsity improved their record to 8-4 with a 25-21 win over Whitko.
Southwood trailed 8-3 after one, but out scored Whitko 11-2 to lead 14-10 at the half. Each team scored 11 points in the seconds half.
Leading Southwood was Emily Lehner with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist. Haley Heath had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Abby Houlihan had 4 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Aleesha Phillips had 2 points and 3 steals. Meranda Friend had 4 steals.
