Lady Squires Stay On A Roll

The Manchester Lady Squire basketball team is on a roll. Saturday the Squires defeated Wabash to make it five straight wins and also gave them a share of the lead in the TRC with Tipp Valley and bolted them back into the 2A rankings at #13.

Monday the Squires took on Blackhawk Christian and won their sixth in a row, defeating the Lady Braves 53-42.

The Manchester depth is really starting to gel, with 9 players scoring in the game and no one over 12 points.

The Lady Squires would get off to a great start, out scoring Blackhawk 15-6 in the first quarter. Manchester would hit six buckets in the quarter led by Autumn Brewer with three buckets for six points and a three pointer from Hannah Schmidt.

In the second quarter with leading scorer Kayla Flack struggling, Hannah Little took over. Little would hit three of the four Manchester buckets in the quarter, plus a free throw to score 7 of the 11 Squire points scored in the quarter while the defense held the Braves to 10 points and the Squires led 26-16 at the half.

The game would have a different tempo to it in the second half as Blackhawk started to find some offense. The Lady Squires would increase their lead by just a point, winning the second half 27-26.

In the third quarter the Squires would have four players hit one bucket each. Hannah Schmidt hit her second three pointer of the game and Kayla Flack led the quarter with 4 points.

The two Hannah’s, Schmidt and Little would dominate the Manchester scoring in the fourth quarter, scoring 9 of the 13 team points in the quarter. The Squires shot just 4 of 9 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, but held Blackhawk to just four buckets to hang on for the 53-42 win.

Hannah Little led with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Hannah Schmidt had 10 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Autumn Brewer had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 1 steal. Kayla Flack had 7 points, 1 assist, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Malyssa Bedke had 5 points and 3 steals. Lindsey Budnik had 4 points, 1 assist and 2 rebounds. Bekah Brunn had 3 points, 2 assist, 1 rebound and 2 steals. Meika Kennedy had 2 points, 3 assist, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Kaylee Watson had 2 points.

Manchester is tied with Wabash and Rochester at #13 in the 2A poll this week. The Lady Squires travel to Rochester Saturday.

The Manchester junior varsity lost to Blackhawk 34-33 in over time.

Celina Carter had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Kiana Gillum had 6 points. Sydney Snep had 4 points and 9 rebounds. Claire Barnett had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Tabby DeWitt had 3 points, 7 rebounds and 1 steal. Shelby Johnson had 4 points.
