It was the tale of two halves for the Northfield Lady Norse basketball team Saturday. The Norse trailed by 10 at the half, only to rally for a 12 point 59-47 win on the road.
The Lady Norse trailed just 10-8 after one and then gave up 21 points in the second quarter while scoring just 13 to trail 31-21 at the half.
Making adjustments at the half the Lady Norse reversed the table in the second half. Both sides of the ball dominated. Northfield out scored Whitko 12-7 in the third quarter and trailed 38-33 with a quarter to go.
The Norse offense exploded in the fourth quarter for 26 points while holding the Wildcats to 9 and come back to defeat Whitko 59-47.
Quotes from Coach Cervenka: “This was a great conference win for our team
against a quality opponent. We had a rough 2nd quarter, allowing 21 points
scored. The girls made adjustments at half time and we played a pretty good 2nd half of basketball. The fourth quarter we were patient with our offense and picked up our defense intensity to outscore them 26 to 9.”
“I am proud of each of the girls.”
Leading Northfield was Sidney Reed with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Sydney Eltzroth had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
