The Southwood girls varsity basketball team traveled to North Miami Saturday night at came away with a TRC victory 49-33.
The game began at a very slow pace, as neither team could find the bucket. Fortunately for Southwood their defense was playing much better than their offense, holding the Warriors to 2 first quarter points and the Knights led 7-2 after one.
Again the Knight defense would dominate, holding North Miami to single digits in the second quarter while the offense started to find a little rhythm. Southwood out scored the Warriors 13-7 and led 20-9 at the half.
The pace of the game would pick up in the third quarter, with both offenses playing a little better than the previous two quarters. North Miami would out score Southwood 10-8 and the Knights led 28-19 after three.
Not wanting a fourth quarter let down the Lady Knights pushed the pace in the final quarter, out scoring North Miami 21-14 and securing their third TRC win 49-33.
Leading the Lady Knights was Sarah White with 20 points and 5 steals. Kaley Harness had 11 points. Jessica Pegg had 9 points and 5 rebounds. Amy Bowman had 5 rebounds. Julia Osborne had 2 assist and Ana Marie Farlow had 3 steals.
The junior varsity built a first half 4 point lead and then held on to defeat North Miami 29-24.
Emily Lehner led with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 2 steals. Haley Heath had 4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Abby Houlihan had 4 points8 rebounds, 1 block and 3 steals. Aleesha Phillips had 4 points and 1 assist. Meranda Friend had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assist and 5 steals. Grace Whitham had 2 points and 2 rebounds.
