Rochester Size To Much For Lady Norse

The Northfield girls were hosting TRC foe Rochester Saturday afternoon. The Zebras had a definite height advantage that ended up being to much for the Lady Norse with Rochester winning the game 42-34.

Despite their height disadvantage the scrappy Norse gave Rochester a battle to the end, with nothing decided until the final buzzer.

With the game tied at 2, Rochester hit two buckets in a row, one being a three pointer to take a 7-2 lead. Katie Stephan hit to make it 7-4 and then the Zebras added a free throw to make it 8-4 after one.

Forty seconds in to the second quarter, Rochester leader Abbie Malchow picked up her third foul and the Norse would take advantage of it. Down 10-4 Sydney Eltzroth hit back to back three pointers to tie the game at 10, followed by a three from Katie Stephan to give Northfield a 13-10 lead. Rochester would edge their way back, tying the score at 15 and hitting the last bucket of the half to lead 17-15.

Rochester would start the third quarter on a 7-0 run, forcing Northfield to call time out and trailing 24-15 with 4:54 to play. Kylie Echard broke the ice with a bucket before Rochester scored again. Alyssa Richter would hit a free throw which would be the last point of the quarter and Rochester led 26-18 with a quarter to go.

Katie Stephan would hit two free throws to start the fourth quarter, followed by two Rochester buckets and it was 30-20. Arie Kennedy traded a bucket with Rochester before the Norse would go on a 6-0 run to make it 32-28 with 4:08 to play. The Norse would keep it close when Kennedy hit her second bucket, followed by a Sidney Reed free throw to make it 35-32 with 2:14 to play. After a Rochester time out Reed hit her second free throw, making it 35-33. The two teams would trade buckets, with Kylie Echard hitting with 1:01 to play and Rochester leading 37-35. Northfield would foul with 55.8 left and Rochester hit one of two free throws, 38-35. On the next Northfield possession, Rochester stole the ball, forcing the Norse to foul again with 35.2 left. The Zebras hit both free throws and led 40-35. Northfield hurried down the floor with Sydney Eltzroth connecting with 26.7 left and calling time out, trailing 40-37. Northfield would foul again with 20.3 remaining and the Zebras converted both free throws, which would end up being the final score, 42-37.

Leading Northfield was Katie Stephan with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Sydney Eltzroth had 11 points and 3 rebounds. Kylie Echard had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks.
