The Northfield girls basketball team ended their regular season on a positive note Thursday, routing Mississinewa 59-29.
Using a fast start and a balance scoring attack the Lady Norse got just what they needed before next week’s sectional. The Norse put 10 players in the scoring column, while the defense had 18 steals.
Northfield would take control early, out scoring the Indians 12-5 in the first quarter and 20-6 in the second to lead 32-11 at the half.
Unlike Wednesday’s game when the Norse couldn’t find the bucket in the third quarter and committed several turnovers, both sides of the ball still had their rhythm, winning the quarter 17-6 and cruising to the fourth quarter up 49-17.
With the game already decided, Mississinewa out scored Northfield 12-10 in the fourth for the 59-29 final.
Leading the Norse was Katie Stephan and Sidney Reed with 12 points each. Stephan had 4 rebounds, 3 assist and 4 steals. Reed had 10 rebounds, 3 assist and 4 steals. Sydney Eltzroth had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assist and 5 steals. Caitlin Eltzroth had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assist and 1 steal. Cherish Leming had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Kylie Echard had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block. Arie Kennedy had 4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Michelle Hendricks had 3 points. Alyssa Richter had 3 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Quotes from Coach Cervenka: “Tonight was a good way to end this busy week
and our regular season. There was a lot of positives from everyone on the team, but also lots we can improve on before sectional.”
Northfield plays North Miami in the second game Wednesday at the Wabash sectional.
