The Manchester Lady Squires were hosting South Adams Thursday night for senior night. Not only was it a special night, the Lady Squires wanted to finish the regular season on a good note before next week’s sectional.
With the mood being tears from the pre game senior recognition, things started a little slow. Neither team could find the bucket and turnovers were common. Malyssa Bedke finally broke the ice with 4:14 left to give the Squires a 2-0 lead. Two South Adams free throws made it 2-2. Meika Kennedy finished the first quarter scoring with 1.5 seconds left and Manchester led 4-2 after one.
During the between quarter time out the Squires settled the nerves and come out playing basketball. Manchester would start the quarter on an 8-0 run to go up 12-2. Kayla Flack scored the first four points, followed by Bekah Brunn and Bedke. Hannah Little and another Brunn bucket extended the lead to 16-4 and then two Autumn Brewer buckets made it 20-6. Meika Kennedy would hit two free throws, with buckets from Brewer and Kaylee Watson ending the quarter with Manchester up 26-9. The Squires had seven players score in the quarter.
Behind the guard tandem of Kennedy and Bedke the squires started the third quarter building the lead to 30-9. Five different players scored in the quarter, led by Kayla Flack with 4 points and the Squires were in control 39-19 after three.
Hannah Little got things started in the fourth and the Squires led 43-21. Coach Underwood ran players in and out, setting up bringing out all five seniors at the same time as the Squires cruised to the 52-33 final.
Leading Manchester was Kaylee Watson with 10 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Malyssa Bedke had 8 points and 1 steal. Autumn Brewer had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Kayla Flack had 8 points, 2 assist, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Hannah Little had 8 points, 1 assist, 1 block, 7 rebounds and 1 steal. Meika Kennedy had 6 points, 6 assist, 4 rebounds and 9 steals. Bekah Brunn had 4 points, 2 assist, 1 rebound and 1 steal. Hannah Schmidt had 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Lindsey Budnik had 1 block.
