The Northfield boys basketball team put their 13 game winning streak on the line Tuesday, traveling to Bunker Hill to take on Maconaquah. In what was a ”chippy game” the Norse pulled out their 14th straight win with a 58-54 win over the Braves.
The Norse got off to a fast start and behind 9 first quarter points from Collin Dawes the Norse led 19-9.
The Braves reversed the momentum in the second quarter, out scoring the Norse 16-8 and the Northfield led just 27-25. Collin Dawes had 11 points at the half.
The Norse gave up the lead early in the third quarter, but came firing back and taking a 41-35 lead on a Dawes three with 2:17 remaining. The Norse would close out the quarter 4-2 and led 45-37 after three. Dawes had 17 and Chad Glasscock 10.
Maconaquah cut the lead to two early in the fourth, but went on a fouling spree, putting the Norse on the line on three consecutive trip and calling time out with 5:07 to and Dawes on the line, leading 51-44. At 53-48 and 3:11 to go the game slowed down to a snails pace, with fouls and turn overs dictating the tempo. Ryan Keaffaber hit two free throws and then the Norse got the ball back on a turn over, with the Braves fouling Dawes with .24 seconds to go. Dawes drained both free throws and the Norse led by ten, 58-48. With the game getting out of control, the Braves scored 6 points in the last 24 seconds, but the Norse survived 58-54.
Collin Dawes led the Norse with 22 points and 5 steals. Ryan Keaffaber added 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and Chad Glasscock chipped in 12 points and 3 steals.
The JV boys basketball team lost to Maconaquah, 54-50. Adam Roser led the Norse with 13 points and 3 steals. Tanner Wilcox added 11 points and 4 rebounds. Jon Richardson chipped in 9 points, while Carter Frieden followed with 8 points and 7 assists.
