The Manchester boys basketball team played a very good 4A Columbia City ball club Friday, falling to the host Eagles 72-31.
The host Eagles jumped on the Squires right away, out scoring Manchester 15-3 in the first quarter. Phoenix Goad hit the lone Squire bucket in the quarter.
The Eagles come out blazing in the second quarter, using their half court trap and draining threes. Columbia City connected on five three pointers in the quarter, scoring 25 points while holding Manchester to 6 and led the Squires 40-9 at the half.
Manchester would go to the long ball in the third quarter, scoring 12 points, all on three’s. Connor McLaughlin hit three from behind the arch, while Derek Self hit the fourth, but the Columbia City train kept rolling to out score Manchester 22-12 to lead 62-21.
The two teams played to a 10-10 tie in the fourth quarter, with four different players scoring for the Squires in the quarter. Neil Underwood hit the Squires fifth three pointer in the game as Columbia City defeated Manchester 72-31.
Leading Manchester was Connor McLaughlin with 9 points. Caleb Thomas had 5, Derek Self, Clayton Petrie and Logan Brunn 4 each, Neil Underwood 3 and Phoenix Goad 2.
The junior varsity lost to Columbia City 34-20.
Leading the Squires was Micah McDaniel with 10 points. Lennart Simon had 6 and Austin Brewer 4.
