The Manchester boys basketball team was hosting Argos, looking for their 4th win of the season Tuesday. Behind the brawn of Logan Brunn and some solid defense the Squires held off Argos for a 46-39 win.
The Squires wanted to make sure they didn’t get off to a bad start and then try to play catchup and did just that, out scoring Argos 9-8 in the first quarter. Logan Brunn had two baskets for 4 points and Connor McLaughlin knocked down a three.
Argos would turn the table in the second quarter, out scoring Manchester by one point, 14-13 to knot the score at 22 at the half. The Squires went to their work horse Brunn, who scored 9 of the Squire 13 points.
Connor McLaughlin would hit his second three of the game in the third quarter and the Squires only managed two buckets, the other by Clayton Petrie as Argos won the quarter 9-8 and led 31-30 over the Squires with a quarter to go.
Trailing by just one point heading to the fourth, the Manchester defense went to work, holding Argos to just two buckets in the quarter, while the offense pressed the issue. Manchester went to the free throw line 19 times in the fourth, converting 10 and hitting three buckets to out score Argos 16-8 in the final quarter for the 46-39 win.
Leading Manchester was Logan Brunn with 21 points. Clayton Petrie had 9, Derek Self 7, Connor McLaughlin 6, Caleb Thomas 2 and Phoenix Goad 1.
The junior varsity topped Argos 40-27.
Leading Manchester was Lennart Simon with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Micah McDaniel had 11, Neil Underwood 5, Cody Egner, Connor Eichenauer, Owen Johnson and Lucas Schilling 2 and Noah Johnson 1.
