Knights Falter In 4th-Fall To Eastbrook

The Southwood boys basketball team was trying to break a six game losing streak, while visiting Eastbrook was looking to stop a 13 game skid. After a tight three quarters the Panthers pulled away from the Knights, spoiling the Southwood senior night 64-52.

The quick Eastbrook offense jumped on the Knights right away, pulling out to a 5-0 lead before Levi Winget stopped the run with a bucket. Down 7-2 Winget hit again and was followed with a bucket from Robbie Cole to make it 7-6. A Connor Hobbs bucket kept the Knights within one at 9-8 when the Panthers went on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 14-8. Winget ended the quarter with a bucket and the Knights trailed 14-10 after one.

Eastbrook would score the first two buckets of the second quarter to up their lead to 18-10 before Winget and Hobbs each hit a free throw. Hobbs followed that up with a three to make it 18-15. At 20-15 Hobbs drained his second three of the quarter to make it 20-18 when the Panthers went on their third 5-0 run to make it 25-18. Coming out of a Southwood time out, Hobbs and Winget kept the Knights close and trailed 29-24 with 39.5 seconds remaining when Ross Phillipy converted a three point play to make it 29-27. Eastbrook would score the final bucket of the quarter and led 31-27 at the half.

Sexton Boggs would hit to start the third quarter and cut the Panther lead to 31-29. Eastbrook would then go on a 6-0 run to extend their lead back to 37-29. Corey Phillipy would stop that run with a bucket. Hobbs and Corey Phillipy would hit again and the Knights trailed 41-35 with 3:33 to go. Out of an Eastbrook time out, Hobbs would connect from behind the arch for the third time to make it 41-38. Eastbrook would out score Southwood 4-2 the last minute and led 45-40 with one to go.

After an Eastbrook bucket, Winget and Ross Phillipy hit to make it 47-44. After a Panther bucket, a scramble for the ball ended up with a technical foul on Eastbrook. Connor Hobbs hit one of the free throws and it was 49-45 with 5:30 to go. The two teams traded buckets to make it 51-47 when Eastbrook would go on an 8-0 run to open a ten point 57-47 lead. Levi Winget would hit and the Knights started to foul, but the Panthers converted their free throws to secure the 64-52 win.

Leading Southwood was Connor Hobbs with 20 points and 3 assist. Levi Winget had 18 points. Corey Phillipy had 6 points, Ross Phillipy 5, Robbie Cole 2 and Sexton Boggs 2. Levi Sutton had 3 steals. Corey Phillipy and Hobbs led in rebounding.
