Lady Squires Ten Run Churubusco

The Manchester varsity softball team evened their season record at 1-1 Wednesday with a 12-2 win over Churubusco in five innings.

Sophomore Sydney Jordan pitched all 5 innings, striking out 5 and walking 0 to pick up her first career varsity win.

Churubusco scored in the top of the first after a Squire error and a double to take an early 1-0 lead, then held Manchester scoreless in the bottom of the inning, aided by a diving catch by the center fielder robbing Hannah Little of extra bases.

Jordan shut Busco down in the second and the Squires made their move. Sydney Snep reached on an error and was doubled in by Kristiana Grogg. Grogg later scored on a passed ball and Manchester led 2-1.

After a scoreless third for Busco the Squires would add some cushion. Kalene Freshour and Hannah Little had back to back singles, then both were singled home by Kayla Flack, 4-1. Meika Kennedy singled before the inning ended.

Churubusco was threatening a big inning in the fourth when the first two hitters singled to put runners on first and second. The third hitter grounded to third baseman Kayla Flack who tagged the runner going to third, fired to second just missing the force at second. Freshour fired a bullet to first for the out as the Squires just missed a triple play. The next hitter singled to drive in the run and the Squires escaped a potential big inning, giving up just one run. The Squires started the bottom of the inning with four straight singles, the last by Freshour to drive in a run 5-2. Little then doubled home two and was followed by Flack singling in two and just like that the Squires led 9-2.

Jordan would strike out two of the three hitters in the fifth to set up the final push. Grogg singled to get things started, stole second and went to third on an illegal pitch. Freshour singled home Grogg to make it 10-2, then stole second. Nina Smith doubled home Freshour, making it 11-2 then Little ended the game with an rbi triple, 12-2.
