SCHELL DRIVES IN SIX RUNS AS MANCHESTER DEFEATS MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 20-7
The Spartan bats were on fire Friday night as Manchester picked up a 20-7 win over Mount St. Joseph in the first of a three-game series from Cincinnati. Manchester jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first inning, highlighted by Corey Marchant rounding the bases on a triple and a throwing error to drive in two runs.
Justin Scott was the winning pitcher for Manchester, throwing five innings and striking out four batters. He gave up seven runs on 13 hits. Caleb McAfee earned the save with four innings of relief pitching, as he gave up two hits and struck out five batters.
Offensively, Cody Schell went 2-4 with six RBIs and three runs scored, collecting two doubles on the day. Brad Murphy went 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, adding a double to his stats. Marchant ended the day 2-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored with a double and a triple. Trevor Kimm scored three runs and went 1-3 on the day, and Robert Heirtz was 1-2 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Manchester improves to 15-12 on the year, 7-5 in the HCAC. They will resume action Saturday in a doubleheader slated to start at 11 a.m., which was a mid-week change from the original start time.
