On Saturday, April 14 five members of the Wabash County Wrestling Club made the trip to Battle Creek, Michigan for the 2012 NUWAY National Championship wrestling tournament. Tyler Miller and Braden Brooks both had similar starts to the day, losing their opening matches and fighting their way through the tough consolation brackets. Tyler was the top placer for the club, as he came back from that 1st round match and won back to back matches earning a spot in the 5th/6th place match. He worked hard but came up a little short and recieved a well earned 6th place finish! Braden fought hard and after a tough loss finished strong with a victory and finished 7th on the day. Both boys received large medals and earned All American status. Jared Brooks and Dylan Stroud started their day the opposite way, both battling their way to 1st round victories. Unfortunately their day didn’t end the same as consecutive losses took them out of the tough double elimination tournament. Jaxon Barnett also competed in the tournament and after receiving a 1st round bye, he ran into a couple tough competitors to end his day just short of the podium as well. I am very proud of all 5 of these boys. For me, just having the heart and the desire to step on the mat with the best wrestlers in the nation is a big victory in it’s own right, and on top of that, 4 of the 5 of them won a match at this level. These boys will all come back next year remembering this experience and I have no doubt will use these tough losses as motivation to work even harder and continue to get better and better. I also want to take second to thank the parents of these boys. This is not a cheap trip and it is very time consuming as well, so again, thank you for the investment in your son’s success!
