The Manchester baseball team picked up their third win of the season Friday, aided by a Caleb Thomas grand slam and topping Maconaquah 7-3.
The Squires picked up a run in the top of the first when Caleb Thomas doubled and was drove home by Logan Brunn.
In the top of the fourth Justin Lewis doubled and was brought home by a Payton Sorg single. Thomas singled and Brunn walked before Connor McLaughlin singled home Sorg to make it 3-0.
In the top of the fifth the Squires would bust it open. With the bases loaded, Caleb Thomas blasted a grand slam that put Manchester up 7-0. Maconaquah would answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-3.
Neither team could plate a run the last two innings. Manchester stranded 10 runners in the game.
Jim Sainsbury got the win on the mound, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, 3 runs(1ER) and striking out 4.
Caleb Thomas had three hits including a grand slam and 4 rbi’s. Connor McLaughlin and Logan Brunn had 2 hits and 1 rbi. Payton Sorg had 1 hit and 1 rbi. Justin Lewis and Jurgin Cripe each had a hit.
