Manchester Tennis Takes Second At Muncie Central

The Manchester Squires Girls Tennis team took part in the Muncie Central Invitational on Saturday and left with a second place finish going 2-1 on the day.
Manchester defeated Blackford 5-0 and Bluffton 4-1 and fell to Muncie Central 5-0.
Malyssa Bedke went 1-2 on the day at No. 1 singles.  She defeated Blackford 7-5, 5-7, 11-9.  She fell to Bluffton 1-6, 1-6, and lost to Muncie Central 0-6, 1-6.
Megan Metzger went 2-1 at No. 2 singles.  Metzger defeated Blackford 6-1, 2-6, 10-8.  She defeated Bluffton 6-0, 6-1, and lost to Muncie Central 3-6, 6-7 (2-7).
At No. 3 singles, Laurel Ruppert went 2-1.  Ruppert beat Blackford 6-0, 6-0 and Bluffton 6-0, 6-0.  Ruppert fell to Muncie Central 2-6, 2-6.
The No. 1 doubles team of Natalee Cain and Katie Peden also went 2-1.  Cain and Peden beat Blackford 6-4, 6-4, beat Bluffton 6-2, 6-1, and fell to Muncie Central 0-6, 1-6.
At No. 2 doubles, Amy Collett and Tawni Kincaid defeated Blackford 6-1, 6-1.  The same duo lost to Muncie Central 3-6, 6-7 (5-7).  Kincaid and Claire Barnett teamed to best Bluffton 6-2, 6-2.
“It was a great day of tennis for Manchester,” said Squire co-coach Tim McLaughlin.  “The girls continue to improve at each position and it was nice to play three matches in one day as preparation for next weekend’s TRC indiviudal tournament.”
Manchester is now 6-1 on the season and plays host to Rochester on Monday.
