The Northfield baseball team, with blustery winds and playing in the wide open Craig Winegardner field pounded out 15 runs Monday in a five inning 15-5 win over Peru.
Peru struck in the top of the first when a routine pop up to short ended up blowing back to the pitchers mound for a single and was later doubled in for a run. The Norse would answer with 12 batters in the bottom of the inning and scoring 5 runs to go up 5-1. Adam Roser, Tanner Chamberlain, Andy Roser and Ryan Keaffaber would start the inning with four straight singles. Austin Keen hit in to a fielders choice that scored two runs. Joseph Ross doubled, Jared Kirtlan walked, Tanner Wilcox singled and Adam Roser walked.
Peru would manufacture another run off starting pitcher Tanner Chamberlain in the second to make it 5-2 before the Norse offense went to work again. Andy Roser walked and worked his way to third when Keen drove him home, 6-2. Ross then singled and went to third on a wild pick off attempt. Collin Dawes reached on an error which drove Ross home 7-2. Kirtlan then tripled home Dawes to make it 8-2 and then scored on a wild pitch, 9-2.
In the third Ryan Keaffaber led off with a double. Keen reached on an error and while trying to steal second, Keaffaber scored, 10-2.
Peru would score a run in the fourth with a single and a couple ground outs to drive in a run, 10-3. To start the Norse half Adam Roser singled and was followed by a Chamberlain walk. Andy Roser was safe on an error from short to score his brother, 11-3. Keen then singled to drive in a run, 12-3 and another run scored on a throwing error to make it 13-3.
The Tigers would score two runs in the top of the fifth and force the Norse to score twice if they wanted the game to end early. Tanner Wilcox got it started with a walk and Adam Roser reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Chamberlain put down a prefect bunt to load the bases for Andy Roser. Andy singled to drive in one, 14-5. Two pitches later Adam Roser scored on a wild pitch to end the game, 15-5.

Uggen: “The wind made it an ugly game but we were able to hit the ball pretty well, got 8 walks and took care of numerous Tiger errors. I thought Tanner (Chamberlain) pitched well despite the crazy conditions. I am happy with the way we are playing of late. We misplayed a couple pops (one actually blew foul between home and first after nearly getting to the SS at its height) but, in fairness, the wind made it pretty tough. To make only 1 error considering, that’s pretty good.”
Next game: vs Rochester at Winegardner Field on Wednesday at 5pm (TRC opener)
