The Southwood Lady Knight softball team came out swinging in an impressive 17 hit game against Manchester Wednesday, topping the Lady Squires 13-1. Not only did the Knights hit the ball, they hit it hard, collecting three home runs and six doubles, while all 13 runs came on rbi’s.
Each team scored a run in the first before the Knights would open a gap. Southwood tacked on a run in the second and two in the fourth to lead 4-1 in what was a game still up for grabs.
Everything changed in the fourth. One of the Squire game plans was to not let Jenny Bentley beat them at the plate, thus intentionally walking her three times in the game, but it was one of those nights when the rest of the team had her back. Logan Hensley and Sarah White would hit home runs with Hensley’s being a three run dinger as the Knights put a four spot on the board to take an 8-1 lead.
The Knights kept hitting while Bentley shut down the Squires. Southwood scored two runs in the sixth to go up 10-1 and then made the Squires decision about Bentley right in the seventh. After being intentionally walked three times, Bentley found a pitch to hit which ended up a three run home run.

Jim Troyer: ” A good start to conference. We hit the ball well and played good defense. Our girls came ready to play
and win. We still need to take this win and build for our next game and the rest of the conference season.”
