Norse Nip Rochester

The Northfield baseball team got a true test in their first TRC game of the year Wednesday, just nipping Rochester 2-0.

Junior Ryan Keaffaber threw a one hitter, which was one hit away from pitching his second straight no hitter, a bloop single over second.

The Norse scored their first run in the first inning. Adam Roser lead off with a double over the out stretched glove of the center fielder. Tanner Chamberlain sac bunted Roser to third. Andy Roser walked before Ryan Keaffaber singled Adam home for a 1-0 lead.

The Norse left runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Rochester SS Tanner Hampton made a great play on Andy Roser’s sharp grounder to his right to save a run in the 5th and get a force at 2nd for the second out.  Stuart got Keen to ground out with bases loaded to end the inning.

In the sixth inning Collin Dawes drew a 1 out walk. Hunter Wells singled to left and Dawes advanced to second. Tanner Wilcox then placed a perfect bunt down the third base line for a single and loaded the bases. Adam Roser grounded out to second for the second out and Dawes scored to make it 2-0.

Uggen:  “This was a hard earned win for us. (Aaron) Stuart pitched a great game and battled out of numerous opportunities for us to put this game away.  I was happy with how well our two freshman (Adam Roser and Tanner Wilcox) hit the ball today. Very encouraging.  Ryan (Keaffaber), believe it or not to me, didn’t seem as sharp as he has been at time but made good pitches and got some great defensive plays behind hi.

Tanner Chamberlain made a diving catch of Zack Schultz’s flare to center to start the game, Joseph Ross dove to his left to knock down a ball and get an out in the 2nd after Wottring had singled and Jared Kirtlan made a diving catch in right center on Hampton to lead off the 3rd.

Next game:   vs Caston at Winegardner Field on Thursday at 5pm
