MC IN MUST-WIN GAME SUNDAY FOR HCAC TOURNAMENT BERTH FOLLOWING SPLIT WITH TRANSY

Manchester picked up a 2-1 win in 10 innings, but fell in game two 3-0 to Transylvania, as both teams are looking to secure the fourth and final spot heading into next week’s HCAC Tournament.

Bryce Murphy took the win in game one, throwing all 10 innings with four strikeouts and six hits allowed. He also finished 2-5 on the day with a run scored. Kyle Norris was 3-5 with ar un, and Cody Schell went 2-4 with an RBI.

In the second game, Justin Scott struck out five as the Spartans lost 3-0. Bryce Murphy, Cody Schell and Trevor Kimm had one hit apiece for MC.

The Spartans go to 21-18 on the year, 13-11 in the conference. Transy stands at 14-10 in league play, forcing Manchester to win on Sunday to hold the tie-breaker for the foruth seed to the HCAC Tournament. Game time has been moved to noon.

SPARTANS ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, FALL TO ANDERSON 6-3

Manchester’s softball team advanced to the championship game of the HCAC Tournament on Saturday before falling to champion Anderson University 6-3.

In their first game of the afternoon, Manchester defeated Bluffton 6-2 as MC took a 3-2 lead after scoring three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Ashlea Nash struck out four batters and allowed just four hits to pick up the win. Kayla Yates was 2-3 with three RBIs from a three-run homer and had a run scored, while Emily Willmann was 2-3 with a pair of runs.

Manchester took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning, but Anderson scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-3 win over the Spartans. Nash got the loss, throwing 3.1 innings with six runs allowed, four earned, on six hits. Amy Hommema, Holly Morris and Willman went 1-3 on the day.

Amy Hommema, Kylie Planck, Kayla Yates and Emily Willmann were named to the All-Tournament Team. Manchester finishes the year 21-23 overall..
