Norse Take Twinbill From Fremont

The Northfield baseball team took a double header from Fremont Saturday, winning game one 6-1 and game two 4-2.

In game one Tanner Chamberlain got things started in the first inning with a 1 out walk and stole second. Andy Roser singled home Chamberlain to make it (1-0).  Ryan Keaffaber would then walk to put Roser on second. Ryan Wilcox singled and Roser scored on a bad throw (2-0).

In the bottom of the second, Ethan Stouffer doubled off the left field fence. Dallas Hovey put down a bunt, but the pitcher threw the ball in to right field, scoring a run (3-0). Adam Roser would then walk and Tanner Chamberlain bunt singles to load bases.  Ryan Keaffaber sac fly, Hovey scores (4-0).

Fremont would pick up an unearned run in the fourth to make it 4-1

In the sixth Adam Roser lined a 2 out single and went to third on 2 wild pitches. Chamberlain then walked and stole second.  Andy Roser 2 rbi single (6-1).

Uggen:  “Tanner (Chamberlain) gave us 4+ good innings on the mound.  He gave up a walk and single to start off the 5th and Ryan (Keaffaber) did a great job getting out of it without giving up a run.  I thought the defense overall was pretty decent and we had a few clutch hits.”

 

Game two started with the Norse manufacturing a run in the first inning.

Adam Roser lead-off with a double to left, then went to 3rd on wild pitch, scoring on the catchers overthrow to third, (1-0).

To start the third Adam Roser lead-off with his second double and went to 3rd on wild pitch. Tanner Chamberlain walked. Andy Roser rbi single, Adam Roser scores (2-0).

Fremont would score an unearned run in the fourth and the sixth to knot the score at 2.

Going in to the bottom of the 6th, Collin Dawes got things started, reaching on a Fremont throwing error. Tanner Wilcox walks, putting Dawes on second, when Jared Kirtlan singled to load the bases. Adam Roser grounds to the pitcher who throws the ball over the catcher’s head andDawes scores to make it (3-2). Tanner Chamberlain then drew a walk to force in another run (4-2). With no outs,  Andy Roser hit in to a  fielder’s choice. Keaffaber strikes out and Austin Keen hits in to a fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Andy Roser shut Fremont down in the 7th to secure the 4-2 win.

Uggen:  “I was very happy with how Joseph Ross threw over his 3 innings. Collin (Dawes) and Andy (Roser) pitched well too but didn’t get much help from the defense. .  I thought we hit the ball reasonably well. We had 4-5 balls hit very well but right at people. All in all though, we played a pretty good team very well twice today so we were fortunate.”

The Norse improve to 16-3
