The Manchester and Northfield baseball teams played an extra inning Thursday to decide a winner, a 2-1 Norse win in a classic pitchers dual.
Northfield manufactured a run in the 4th to break the scoreless tie. Tanner Chamberlain reached on a Squire error and was later drove home on a Ryan Keaffaber single to lead 1-0.
Manchester scored their lone run in the fifth. Justin Lewis laced a double and later scored on a Norse error to knot the score at 1.
The Squires had a shot in the bottom of the 7th to win the game. Manchester put the first 2 runners on board in the 7th but Andy Roser struck out the next 3 to get out of the jam.
In the top of the 8th Andy Roser hit a bomb over the center field fence to put the Norse up 2-1. The Squires again put two runners on in the bottom of the inning, but left them stranded on first and third to end the game.
Joseph Ross went 6+ innings for the Norse, allowing 4 hits and striking out 2. Andy Roser got the win in relief.
Connor McLaughlin went 8 strong innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 16.
