MANCHESTER UPSETS TOP-SEEDED ROSE-HULMAN 8-1 IN HCAC TOURNAMENT OPENER, FACES FRANKLIN FRIDAY

The fourth-seeded Manchester Spartan baseball team picked up an 8-1 win on Thursday, knocking top-seeded Rose-Hulman into the consolation round and puts the Spartans into the tournament semi-finals to face #2 Franklin starting at noon on Friday. Franklin posted a 3-0 win over Anderson in the other tournament game for the day.

 

Manchester picked up four runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take the 8-1 win and was led by the arm of Justin Scott, who picked up the win on the mound. Scott recorded six strikeouts in nine complete innings and surrendered just one earned run on seven hits.

 

Corey Marchant and Jordan Nieman connected on back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning for MC, with Marchant ending the day 1-5 with three RBIs and Nieman finishing 2-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Kyle Norris went 2-5 with a run, Cody Schell was 1-4 with two runs and an RBI and Trevor Kimm ended the game 2-4 with a run scored.

 

Manchester improves to 23-18 on the year, and will face Franklin starting at noon on Friday. Catch live stats of the game courtesy of Rose-Hulman. A Manchester win would advance MC to Saturday’s championship, while a loss would put them at the 7 p.m. game Friday night.
