MANCHESTER TOPS SECOND-SEED FRANKLIN 11-5 TO ADVANCE TO HCAC TOURNAMENT FINALS
Manchester’s baseball team posted its second upset of the 2012 HCAC Tournament following an 11-5 win over second-seeded Franklin on Friday afternoon. Manchester scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 9-4 lead, and posted two more runs in the top of the eighth to secure their trip the conference tournament championship game on Saturday.
Kyle Konarski pitched a complete nine innings for Manchester, striking out 10 batters and giving up five earned runs on nine hits. Jordan Nieman led the way for MC, going 3-5 with a two RBI double and a run scored. Trevor Kimm went 3-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Robert Heritz was 2-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Austin Rieke also finished 2-3 at bat with a run scored.
Manchester ups its record to 24-18 on the year and will face either Rose-Hulman, Franklin or Anderson in Saturday’s championship game starting at noon.
