MANCHESTER DRAWS WASHINGTON AND JEFFERSON IN NCAA MIDEAST REGIONAL OPENER HOSTED BY MARIETTA COLLEGE

Manchester’s baseball team will square off against Washington and Jefferson in their opening contests at the 2012 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, hosted by Marietta College (Ohio). Manchester is a seven seed going into the tournament, while Washington and Jefferson is seeded second.

Manchester (25-19, 14-11 HCAC) earned their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament after winning the HCAC Tournament title as a four seed, upsetting regular season champions Rose-Hulman, the two seed Franklin and picking up a win in the forced game seven of the tournament against three seed Anderson. This makes Manchester’s fifth appearance to the NCAA Tournament.

Washington & Jefferson (35-8, 21-3 PAC) earned an at-large bid to this year’s tournament, their third trip in four years and are ranked 14th in the nation. W&J lost in the championship game of the President’s Athletic Conference Tournament to receive the at-large bid.

Joining Manchester and Washington & Jefferson in the tournament will be top-seeded and host site Marietta College, #3 Adrian, #4 St. John Fisher, #5 Westminster, #6 Wooster and #8 La Roche.

Manchester will face W&J starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday with live video and stat coverage available.
