Girls Tennis Sectional

Three county tennis teams went to battle in the Peru sectional Thursday. Manchester and Wabash battled each other with the Squires pulling out a 3-2 win over the Apaches.

In other action Southwood lost to Peru 1-4.

In the Manchester/Wabash match :

2 Singles Megan Metzger Manchester Def. Charlianne Pardo Wabash 2-6, 6-3, 7-5

1 Doubles Natalee Cain & Katie Peden Manchester Def. Pratchi Patel & Jordan Rauh Wabash 6-4, 6-2
2 Doubles Claire Cromer & Kristyn Ford Wabash Def. Amy Collet & Tawni Kincaid Manchester 7-5, 7-6

Manchester advances to the final round Friday against Peru. With Manchester winning the match, Wabash #1 singles player Kelsey Cromer will advance as an individual. Any #1 singles or doubles player(s) who win, but the team did not advance as an individual.

“It was an incredibly hard fought match by both teams,” said Manchester co-head coach Tim McLaughlin.  “Both the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches lasted well over 2 1/2 hours.”
“Megan and Laurel just showed amazing composure coming back after losing the first set to win and pull out the team match.  Natalee and Katie got off to a bit of a slow start and then really played good, aggressive tennis to get the first point for us,” McLaughlin added.  “They continue to improve each time out.”
“Even though we lost at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles, it was quality tennis against good opponents.  Wabash is a well coached, good team and it was a nice win for us,” McLaughlin added.

In the Southwood/Peru match :

#1 singles Liz Collins lost 2-6, 0-6

#2 singles Michelle McLane lost 1-6, 0-6

#3 singles Emily Airgood lost 1-6, 0-6

#1 doubles Alyson Adams & Sofia Draper won 6-1, 6-2

#2 doubles Jordan Vielee & Sarah Peters lost 4-6, 0-6

The #1 doubles team of Alyson Adams & Sofia Draper advanced
