The Southwood boys basketball team traveled to Greentown Saturday to take on the Eastern Comets. After a tight first half, a third quarter lapse by the Knights was to much to overcome in a 64-57 loss.
The Knights hung tough in the first quarter on the road, trailing 15-10 after one. Southwood would out score Eastern 16-12 in the second and the Comets led the Knights by just one at 27-26 at the half.
The third quarter was the down fall as Eastern would put 22 points on the board, while holding the Knights to just 9 for a 49-35 third quarter score.
The Southwood offense would catch fire in the fourth, putting up 22 points of their own, but the Comets held off the surge to hang on for the 64-57 win.
Leading Southwood was Shane Smith with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals. Jackson Blair added 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals. Corey Phillipy had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals. Ross Phillipy had 8 points, 4 assist. Levi Sutton and Nathan Hollars had 3 assist each. Hollars had 2 steals.
The junior varsity fell at Eastern, 48 – 35. Alex Harmon had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds; Noah Kirk had 9 points and 4 steals; Jake Lloyd added 7 points and 4 steals. Luke Elliott had 6 rebounds for the 0 and 3 JV.
