The Manchester boys basketball team took on 3A #5 Guerin Catholic and former Squire coach Pete Smith Saturday. With emotions high the Squires led after one, but ended up falling 54-42.
Pete Smith coached Manchester from 1987 to 1991. Several players who played for Smith came back to greet their former coach.
The Squires were in full gear in the first quarter with Claudell Dickantone leading the way with 7 points. Dickantone and Chase Fierstos had three pointers for Manchester as they led Guerin 14-13 after one.
The power of Guerin took over in the second as they out scored the Squires 17-4, which would be the difference in the game to lead 30-18 at the half. Clayton Petrie and Neil Underwood had buckets for Manchester.
The ever improving Squires played Guerin even in the second half for the 54-42 final.
Leading Manchester was Claudell Dickantone with 16 points. Clayton Petrie added 12, Lucas Schilling 4, Chase Fierstos 3, Cameron Brandenburg 3, Neil Underwood 2, Braydon Sewell 2.
