Northfield senior Ryan Keaffaber has followed his father Randy’s foot steps and signed his national letter of intent to play baseball at Indiana State University in 2014.
Randy played at Indiana State from 1990-1993, totaling 21 wins and 119 strikeouts over his final three seasons on the mound.
As a junior Ryan became Northfield’s all time winning pitcher, leading the Norse to the 2A state championship, while going 16-0 and making his career record 35-2 with a 1.14 ERA and 347 strikeouts.
In 2012 Ryan was named a MaxPreps.com Small School All-American. Ryan is a two-time Class 2A All-State selection and a two-time Wabash County Pitcher of the Year.
Coach Uggen “I have not had any pitcher come close to knowing how to truly pitch to hitters than Ryan Keaffaber and I have coached some pretty good pitchers over my 19 years at Northfield. He has mastered three pitches (fastball, curve and change) and can locate them where he wants over 90% of the time.
“Ryan is coming off an unbelievable junior season and led his team to the Class 2A State Championship,” said Indiana State head coach Rick Heller. “We couldn’t be happier to have Ryan in our program. He is a winner on the field and in the classroom. Ryan is a tough competitor, throws a bunch of strikes and wins games.”
Indiana State was 41-19 in 2012 and Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions.
Keaffaber also plays basketball for Northfield, leading the team in scoring at 14.4 point per game heading in to the county tourney Friday & Saturday.
