The junior varsity championship games got Saturday started with the Southwood and Wabash girls squaring off first.
Maybe with some nerves flowing both teams started off slow and the score was tied at 3 after the first quarter. Southwood would out score Wabash 12-6 in the second to lead 15-9 at the half.
The Lady Apaches would mount a comeback in the third, but the Knights would run once more and led 25-18 after three. After being down nine in the third the Lady Apaches went on a run in the fourth, holding Southwood scoreless for five minutes to take a 28-25 lead with 1:15 to go. Abby Houlihan would draw Southwood to within one at 28-27 with 31.3 left, but two Sarah Ritter free throws kept the Wabash lead. Houlihan would hit again with 16.0 remaining to make it 30-29, but two Jaclyn Lewis free throws kept the Apache lead. Haley Heath would score with 6.6 left to make it 32-31. Forced to foul, Southwood put Lewis on the line again, converting two free throws to secure the 34-31 Wabash win.
The junior varsity boys were up next with Northfield taking on Wabash. The Norse controlled a low scoring first half, leading 8-4 after one and 16-8 at the half. The Norse would extend their lead to 25-14 after three. The Norse held Wabash scoreless the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, before Chase Dirig broke the ice with a three to make it 26-17 with 3:51 to play. Heath Miller would convert a three point play to extend the Northfield lead back to 12 with 3:00 left. Keaton Cruz would then give the Apaches some life with a duece and a three to cut the lead to 29-22 with 1:50 to play. The Apaches would begin to foul. Dirig hit after a missed free throw to make it 29-24 and fouled again. The Apaches cut the lead to 31-27 with 57.3 remaining, but were still forced to foul, with Northfield hitting their free throws down the stretch for the 36-27 win.
In the consolation games, Northfield topped Manchester in the girls game 30-20 and Manchester defeated Southwood 43-36.
