Lady Norse Start 2013 On Right Track

After winning the 2012 Wabash County tourney and moving in to the 2A top 15, the Northfield girls basketball team got 2013 started on the right track with a 43-25 win on the road at Bluffton Wednesday, moving their season record to 9-3.

The Lady Norse left no doubt right from the start, jumping on Bluffton early and led 11-4 after one. The Northfield defense had held the Tigers to just two point with a little over a minute to go.

The intensity would continue on both ends of the court in the second quarter as Northfield limited Bluffton to just 4 points again while scoring 15 to lead 26-8 at the half. Sidney Reed and Katie Stephan each had 7 points at the half.

The defensive pressure would continue in the third quarter as Northfield picked the pockets of Bluffton several times and forced numerous turnovers. Northfield would out score Bluffton 11-2 in the quarter for a commanding 37-10 lead. Sydney Eltzroth was leading the Norse with 8 points.

With the game under control the Norse worked on depth in the fourth to cruise to the 43-25 win.

Northfield had 21 steals and forced 34 turnovers.

Northfield put 7 players in the scoring column.

Sidney Reed led the Norse with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals, 1 block. Sydney Eltzroth had 8 points, 1 rebound, 3 assist, 5 steals. Katie Stephan had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Kylie Echard had 7 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Payton Thomson had 5 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals. Arie Kennedy had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 asist, 4 steals. Marlee Stefanatos had 3 points, 5 steals.

The Lady JV Norse had another fine team effort, defeating Bluffton 46-27. Jensen Zumbaugh led the team in scoring with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Abbie Keaffaber added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Sarah Driscoll scored 6 points and led the team with 6 rebounds. Payton Thomson had 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Maddie Dale had 6 points and 2 rebounds. Hannah Cole had 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist.

The Lady Norse are at home against Tippecanoe Valley Thursday.
