Lady Norse Rout Tippecanoe Valley

The Northfield Lady Norse basketball team kept their momentum going Thursday, routing Tippecanoe Valley 54-32 to win their 4th straight and move to 10-3 for the season.

The Norse offense was clicking with back cuts and on target passing, while the defense created a faster pace, holding Valley to just one bucket in the first quarter to build a 12 point lead.

The Lady Norse got off to a 6-0 start behind buckets from Sydney Eltzroth, Katie Stephan and Sidney Reed, forcing Valley to call time out. The Lady Vikings would come out of the time out and hit a three to cut the Norse lead in half before another run. Stephan would drain a three that would start a 9-0 run to give the Norse a 15-3 first quarter lead. Stephan led the Norse with 7 points.

The Norse would continue the run to start the second, as Sidney Reed would convert a three point play and was followed by an Eltzroth bucket to increase the lead to 20-3. Valley would get to within 11 at 22-11 before Stephan drained a three before the half ended to put Northfield up 25-11 at the half.

To start the third the Norse went to a full court press and forced numerous traps that created an up tempo game to have their largest scoring quarter of the night of 21 points, which included a 9-0 run. With Kylie Echard on the point of the press the Vikings tried to pass around her height with the Norse defenders waiting for the steal. Five different players scored in the quarter with Sydney Eltzroth leading the way with 6 points. Northfield led 46-23 with a quarter to go.

Having a big lead heading to the fourth the Norse slowed the pace to eat some clock, playing several players in a convincing 54-32 win.

Katie Stephan led the Norse with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist, 2 steals. Sydney Eltzroth added 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 6 steals. Sidney Reed had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks. Kylie Echard had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 4 blocks. Arie Kennedy had 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals. Payton Thomson had 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal.

The Lady JV Norse dropped to 8 and 5 on the season with a 36-18 loss. Payton Thomson led the team with 7 points, Jensen Zumbaugh chipped in with 6 points and 4 steals. Sarah Driscoll and Abby Keaffaber led the team with 4 rebounds each.
