It was a battle to the very end, but the Southwood boys basketball team went to Whitko Friday night and did what most teams don’t do there, win !!
Trailing by five at the half and tied after three, the Knights rallied behind a team effort to down the Wildcats 49-43.
The two teams battled to a 9-9 tie after one when Whitko would out score Southwood 14-9 in the second to lead the Knights 23-18 at the half.
Behind double digit scorers Corey Phillipy and Shane Smith the Knights rallied in the third, winning the quarter 15-10 to knot the score at 33 with a quarter to go.
The Knights kept the momentum going in the forth, winning the fourth quarter 16-10, for the six point final margin of 49-43.
Leading the Knights was Corey Phillipy with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assist, 5 steals. Shane Smith had 10 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assist, 6 steals, 4 blocks. Jackson Blair had 9 points, 2 blocks. Robbie Cole had 6 points. Ross Phillipy had 5 points, 2 assist.
The Knights moved to 7-3 on the season and 3-0 in the TRC.
The junior varsity beat Whitko 36-29 after trailing 12-1 after the first quarter.
Luke Elliott led the way with 15 points. Clay Hinrichsen added 7, Noah Kirk 6, Dolph Struck 5, Alex Harmon 3.
harmon led the Knights in rebounding with 6. Brennan Kelly had 3 assist, 5 steals. Harmon and Hinrichsen had 3 blocks each.
