The Southwood Lady Knights basketball team came in to Saturday’s game with Whitko leading the TRC with a perfect 4-0 record. Being in the drivers seat, the Lady Knights control their own destiny for a shot to win the conference and took care of business against the Lady Wildcats, winning 60-48 to raise their season record to 10-4(5-0 TRC).
Although the Knights won just two of the four quarters, it was the domination of the two they won that carried them to the win.
The first quarter looked as though they were going to run away from Whitko in a blow out as they won the first quarter 21-9. The Wildcats would gain their composure and start to widdle away at the Southwood lead. Whitko would out score Southwood 16-10 in the second as the Knights lead shrunk to six for a 31-25 halftime lead.
The Whitko momentum would continue in the third quarter as the Wildcats kept coming, cutting the Southwood lead to two at 40-38 after three with the Knights being the team that needed to regroup. Southwood would fine a second wind in the fourth quarter as the offense would click again, scoring 20 points while holding Whitko to 10 for the 60-48 final.
The Lady Knights were just 19 of 35 from the free throw line and tied Whitko in rebounding with 37. They also put 8 players in the scoring column.
TRC leading scorer Sarah White(16.2) led the Knights with 31 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assist, 5 steals. Katie Stouffer had 6 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks. Amy Bowman had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals. Haley Heath had 4 points, 2 rebounds. Emily Murphy had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals. Mollie Harnish had 3 points, 2 rebounds. Kaley Harness had 3 points, 1 rebound, 2 assist, 2 steals. Ana Marie Farlow had 3 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block.
Southwood won the junior varity game 37-33.
Abby Houlihan had 12 points, Haley Heath 11, Meranda Friend 5, Danielle Pegg 5, Aleesha Phillips 4.
Houlihan led with 8 rebounds, Heath had 5 steals.
