Wabash Girls Win County Battle Over Manchester

It was hall of fame night at Wabash and the Lady Apaches needed a win over Manchester to keep pace in the TRC race. Wabash would use a balanced offense with six players scoring and got some much needed input from their bench, getting 7 points and 8 rebounds from their subs to hold off Manchester 51-38.

Wabash got off to a great start, hitting the first three buckets of the game, one a three pointer from Claire Cromer to lead 7-0. Manchester would call time out to regroup and started to pound the ball inside. Tabby DeWitt and Kayla Flack hit free throws, followed by two free throws from Autumn Brewer to make it 7-4. Brewer’s free throws came on Kyleigh Hampton’s second foul to force her out of the game. Cromer would trade buckets with Bekah Brunn when Hampton’s replacement Sarah Puckett would come up big with a bucket and a free throw and Wabash led 14-8 after one.

The game plan stayed the same for Manchester in the second, again getting the ball inide. Brewer would start the scoring in the quarter, with Madison Isbell hitting twice and the game was tied at 14. The Lady Apaches quickly responded with Cromer’s second three of the game and a bucket from Hampton to take a 19-14 lead. At 19-16 Cromer would hit and was followed by two free throws from Pucket to give Wabash their largest lead at 23-16. Manchester would close the gap to 5, when Lyndsie Thomas hit and Cromer drained another three right before the buzzer to give Wabash a 28-18 lead at the half.

The Lady Apaches would bust the game open in the third, out scoring Manchester 14-6 to lead by 18 after three, 42-24. Lyndsie Thomas would find her jumper, scoring 6 points while Cromer added two buckets and two free throws. The Manchester inside game scored their six points with a bucket each from Brewer, DeWitt and Flack.

Manchester would turn up the pressure in the fourth, out scoring Wabash 14-9, but ran out of time to close the gap any further.

Leading Wabash was Claire Cromer with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assist, 1 steal. Lyndsie Thomas had 13 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal. Kyleigh Hampton had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist, 3 blocks. Sarah Puckett had 5 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block. Katelyn Vogel had 3 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assist, 1 steal. Jaclyn Lewis had 2 points, 1 steal. Charlie Pardo had 2 rebounds. Abby Stein had 2 rebounds.

Leading Manchester was Autumn Brewer with 12 points, 8 rebounds. Kayla Flack had 10 points, 5 assist, 1 block, 8 rebounds, 5 steals. Kalene Freshour had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals. Madison Isbell had 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal. Tabby DeWitt had 4 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal. Sydney Snep had 2 points, 1 rebound. Bekah Brunn had 1 point, 1 rebound, 2 steals. Claire Barnett had a assist.

Wabash Junior Varsity goes to 10-6 with a 24-12 win over Manchester.
