The Northfield boys varsity basketball team built and lost an early lead at Whitko Friday, having to go to overtime, winning a thriller 59-57.
Led by the senior tandem of Ryan Keaffaber and Collin Dawes the Norse were down 14-12 after the first quarter before out scoring Whitko 18-11 in the second to lead 30-25 at the half.
The Norse momentum continued in the third quarter as they again out scored the host for a 46-37 lead heading to the fourth. Thats when a little home cooking got the Wildcats back in the game as they out scored the Norse 14-5 to force overtime.
Northfield would out score Whitko 8-6 in the OT for the exciting 59-57 win. The victory moved the Norse to 8-5.
Leading the way was Ryan Keaffaber with 24 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 6 steals. Collin Dawes added 15 points, 1 rebound, 5 assist, 4 steals. Noah Shear had 6 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal. Carter Frieden had 5 points, 1 steal. Marcus Kroh had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals. Adam Roser had 3 points, 1 rebound, 2 assist, 1 steal. Tanner Wilcox had 2 points, 1 rebound. Jon Richardson had 1 steal.
The Norse shot 54.5% from two point land, 57.1% from behind the arch and 50.0% from the free throw line.
The junior varsity pounded Whitko 45-18.
