It was a great night for the Wabash boys basketball teams Friday, as they took a triple header from North Miami. In the first game of the night the C team topped the Warriors 54-13.
Jordan Burnsworth led the way with 18 points. JR Swetnam and Jordan Holley had 8 points each, Bailey Jones and Owen Yeadon 6 points each, Noah Cole and Derek Buckley 3 points each, Marcus Jones 2 points.
In the second game of the night, the junior varsity defeated North Miami 42-29.
Christian Hall had 20 points, Kody King 8, Tyler Hough 7.
Wabash out rebounded the Warriors 30-21. Hall led the Apaches with 5 rebounds and 2 assist.
In the finale the varsity exploded for 81 points, putting four players in double figures and nine players scoring as they out gunned North Miami 81-67.
With the loss of their two tallest players, the Apaches decided to make it 32 minutes of all out chaos. After a missed shot the Apaches forced a 10 second violation that sparked the bench and the crowd. Tyler Brewer and Breyton Nealis would give Wabash a 4-0 lead before North Miami drained a three. After the three, Nealis would score the next 6 points to put the Apaches up 10-5, but the Warriors wouldn’t go away, cutting the lead to 12-9. The Apaches would then make their move. Andrew Adamson would hit a three and a two, followed by a two from Nealis to lead 19-9 and forcing a North Miami timeout. Tyler King, Mike Jones and Adamson would hit coming out of the time out to stretch the lead to 25-9. The warriors would close the gap to 27-17 by quarter end.
Running players in and out, Jordan Blair would be the next to step up. Blair nailed a three to get the Apaches going, hitting two in the quarter as Nealis and Tyler Brewer hit twice and the Apaches maintained their 10 point lead until 41-31. At that point North Miami would go on a 6-0 run to close the gap to 41-37. The Apaches led 43-37 at the half.
Again, Wabash would apply heavy full court pressure to start the quarter. Forcing another 10 second count, it sparked three Apache buckets. Adamson, Mike Jones and Nealis would make it 50-37 after a Nealis three. North Miami would pick away again, cutting the lead to 6 points by quarter end at 56-50.
North Miami would draw first blood in the fourth quarter, hitting to get as close as they had been the entire game at 56-52. The Apaches would then go on an 8-0 run to open for some breathing room. Grant Sailors got it started with Nealis, Adamson and King hitting to make it 64-52. After a Warrior bucket, Wabash would score another five straight to open a 15 point lead at 69-54. North Miami would never get it closer than 11 points after the mid quarter run by Wabash, as the Apaches ran away for an 81-67 win.
Leading Wabash was Breyton Nealis with 26 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assist, 4 steals, 1 block. Jordan Blair had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals. Andrew Adamson had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals. Tyler Brewer had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals. Taylor Vigar had 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assist, 1 steal. Tyler King had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assist, 5 steals. Mike Jones had 4 points, 4 rebounds. Grant Sailors had 3 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assist, 2 steals. Kodi Clemons had 2 points, 2 assist. Cody King had 2 rebounds, 1 steal.
