The Manchester Lady Squire basketball team played what might have been the best two quarters of basketball all year in the first half against Rochester Saturday. The second half on the other hand is one they will soon want to forget. Manchester scored just 7 points in the second half, falling to Rochester 51-35.
Hosting the Lady Zebras, Manchester came out hot with four different players scoring in the quarter. Kayla Flack, Kalene Freshour and Autumn Brewer each had 4 points, with Tabby DeWitt chipping in a bucket and the Lady Squires led 14-9 after one.
Manchester would score 14 points again in the second quarter, while the Rochester offense started to heat up, scoring 18. Two Squires players scored all the points in the quarter. Kayla Flack had 9 and Tabby DeWitt 5. Manchester held a one point lead at 28-27 at the half.
As good as Manchester played in the first half, the second half would be a shock. The Lady Squires struggled in every phase with Rochester out scoring Manchester 16-0 to open a 43-28 lead after three.
Rochester would out score Manchester 8-7 in the fourth for the 51-35 final.
Leading Manchester was Kayla Flack with 13 points, 2 assist, 5 rebounds. Tabby DeWitt had 11 points, 4 rebounds. Kalene Freshour had 6 points, 3 assist, 2 rebounds, 2 steals. Autumn Brewer had 5 points, 1 assist, 5 rebounds, 1 steal. Katelyn Andritsch had 1 rebound. Bekah Brunn had 2 assist, 1 steal.
The junior varsity fell 27-5.
Celina Carter had 2 points, 2 steals. Kiana Gillum had 2 points, 1 rebound. Desiree Blum had 1 point, 3 rebounds, 1 steal.
