The Wabash boys varsity basketball team fell to 4-9, 1-4 with a heartbreaking 76-74 loss to Whitko Friday.
The Apaches fell behind 22-15 after the first quarter, forcing them to play catch up in the second. Wabash would increase the pressure in the second in typical Apache style, with Andrew Adamson picking pockets at the point and Breyton Nealis or Taylor Vigar dishing for an assist. Wabash out scored Whitko 25-20 in the second to trail just 42-40 at the half.
Whitko would get the paced slowed to their liking in the third, holding the race horse style of Wabash under control while out scoring the Apaches 15-12 to build a 57-52 with a quarter to go.
Wabash would work on getting the tempo back to their liking in the fourth, scoring 22 points but the Wildcats were just good enough to hold on a squeek out the two point, 76-74 win over Wabash.
Leading the Apaches was Andrew Adamson with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist, 6 steals. Breyton Nealis had 17 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assist, 4 steals, 4 blocks. Taylor Vigar had 12 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assist, 1 steal. Kodi Clemons had 8 points, 1 rebound, 2 assist. Tyler Brewer had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals. Tyler King had 6 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal. Grant Sailors had 3 points, 2 rebounds. Jordan Blair had 2 points, 1 steal. Mike Jones had 4 rebounds, 1 steal. Cody King had 3 rebounds.
The junior varsity topped Whitko 54-34.
Christian Hall led with 16 points. Chase Dirig had 13, Tyler Hough 9. Tyler Hough had 7 rebounds.
The junior varsity is now 9-4.
