Norse Use The Long Ball To Top Rochester

After a sluggish start the Northfield boys basketball team would get hot from behind the arch to top Rochester 57-45 in TRC action Friday.

With both teams stone cold to start, Rochester finally found the bucket first with 5:00 remaining in the quarter. The Norse first bucket came with 4:24 left when freshman Noah Shear gave the Norse a 3-2 lead with a long ball. The Zebras would answer with their own three to take the lead back before Shear hit from behind the arch for the second time to put Northfield back up 6-5. Tanner Wilcox added a bucket to put the Norse up 3 before Rochester made it 8-7. Shear would then dial up his third three pointer of the quarter, with Collin Dawes adding two buckets, one a three pointer as Northfield led 16-9 after one.

The second quarter would get started with three’s again by the Norse, this time by Jon Richardson who hit back to back treys to give Northfield a 22-9 lead. After a Rochester bucket, the Norse would get free throws from Ryan Keaffaber and buckets from Dawes and Richardson to lead 28-13. Marcus Kroh would hit the next Norse bucket to double up on Rochester 30-15 and have the lead to 16 points before Rochester hit a three before the half to make it 34-22.

The third quarter would be the lowest scoring quarter of the night, as the Norse held Rochester to just 6 points while scoring only 10 of their own. Two of the four Norse buckets were three pointers, one each by Adam Roser and Ryan Keaffaber. Northfield led 44-28 with a quarter to go.

Adam Roser would trade buckets twice with the Zebras early in the fourth, then got a bucket from Richardson to have their largest lead of the night, 50-33. Rochester would go on a small run to cut the lead to 52-43 with a minute to go, but Keaffaber free throws and another Richardson bucket iced the game, 57-45.

Leading the Norse was Ryan Keaffaber with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assist, 2 steals. Jon Richardson had 12 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals. Collin Dawes had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assist, 3 steals. Noah Shear had 9 points, 3 assist. Adam Roser had 7 points, 1 rebound, 2 assist. Tanner Wilcox had 3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assist. Marcus Kroh had 2 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks.

 

The JV boys defeated Rochester 44-22.

Northfield is at Huntington Saturday.
