The Southwood Lady Knight basketball team started and finished strong, with a few problems in between to win the TRC outright with a 50-33 win over North Miami Saturday. The Lady Knights completed a clean sweep(7-0) conference record.
Southwood got off to a good start, going on a 5-0 run to start the game. Ana Marie Farlow scored the first two buckets. North Miami would cut the lead to 7-4 before buckets from Katie Stouffer and Sarah White made it 11-4. At 11-6 White would grab a rebound off a missed free throw, putting it back in while being fouled to convert a three point play for a 14-6 lead and the Knights led 16-9 after one.
North Miami would cut in to the Knight lead early in the second, hitting the first two buckets to make it 16-12. Needing a bucket the Knights were taking the ball out of bounds, with White taking the ball out of bounds. Having trouble finding on open team mate, White bounced the ball off the back side of the defender and grabbed the ball for a layup. Other than two Katie Stouffer free throws the Knights went on a cold spell, not scoring for nearly four minutes. Kaley Harness finally found the bucket and Southwood led 22-17 at the half.
Both teams would have trouble finding the bucket in the third quarter, as each team scored just 8 points. White connected twice with Emily Murphy and Farlow getting a bucket and Southwood was one quarter away from a TRC title, leading by just five, 30-25.
With the Southwood defense holding their own, it was the offense that had struggled through the night. As she has many times this year, Sarah White took over. White would bust loose for 12 points in the quarter as she led the Knights to a 12-4 run the first five minutes to give Southwood a 44-29 lead. Southwood had their best quarter of the night, scoring 20 points while holding North Miami to 8 again for the 50-33 conference clincher.
Leading Southwood was Sarah White with 24 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assist, 3 steals. Ana Marie Farlow had 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals. Emily Murphy had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block. Amy Bowman had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist. Kaley Harness had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assist, 4 steals. Katie Stouffer had 4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 4 blocks.
