Lady Norse Use Comeback To Top Rochester

The Northfield girls basketball team went on the road Saturday to take on the Rochester Zebras, using a fourth quarter comeback to top the host 54-52.

The Norse got in early foul trouble and the Zebras took advantage of the situation, out scoring Northfield the first three quarters. Rochester won the first quarter 15-13 and the second 18-14 to lead 33-27 at the half.

Rochester would then take a 7 point lead to the fourth quarter, out scoring Northfield 16-15 in the third to lead 49-42 to set up the exciting finish.

The Northfield defense would clamp down, holding Rochester to 3 points while scoring 10 and escaping two last second Rochester shots to capture the 54-52 win.

Leading the way was Sidney Reed with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assist, 3 steals. Katie Stephan had 12 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist. Sydney Eltzroth had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assist. Quotes from Coach Cervenka: “The girls battled today against a very quality
opponent. We had foul trouble early and Rochester capitalized by hitting 9 of 9
the first half. The girls responded well in the 2nd half and executed our plan.
Our 4th quarter was a great defensive effort, holding them to just 3 points. We
did a better job of recognizing where their shooters were and stopping the drive.”
“Reed played a good game for us with 24 points.”
