A very slow start doomed the Manchester lady Squire basketball team Saturday at Tippecanoe Valley. Mancchester fell behind 20-4 after the first quarter in a 54-41 loss to the Vikings.
The Lady Squires dug an early hole in the first, as they scored just 4 points on two Autumn Brewer free throws and a bucket from Tabby DeWitt to trail 20-4 after one.
Manchester would out score Valley 11-10 in the second quarter despite hitting just one bucket, as Valley was runing a diamond and one on leading scorer Kayla Flack, using a full court press and trapping defense. The helter skelter defense gave the Squires opportunities at the free throw line and they capitalized, hitting 8 in the quarter. Katelyn Andritsch hit the lone Manchester bucket, which was a three pointer as the Squires trailed 30-15 at the half.
Valley would out score Manchester 14-12 in the third. Sydney Snep came off the bench to hit two buckets, while Flack found the hoop twice. Manchester trailed 44-27 after three.
Manchester would win the fourth quarter 14-10 to close the gap to 13 points in the 54-41 loss.
Kayla Flack would lead Manchester with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal. Sydney Snep had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals. Tabby DeWitt had 5 points, Autumn Brewer 4, Katelyn Andritsch 3, Kalene Freshour 2, Bekah Brunn 1.
